Hallo Zusammen,
also erst mal finde ich dieses automatische mounten nach /media/usb/ echt klasse.
Gestern habe ich endlich mal alle meine drei USB-Platten an den VDR gehängt.
Ein kleine Umgereimtheit fiel mir aber gerade nach einem Neustart auf:
Die Reihenfolge zweier der Platten, ist plötzlich eine andere, als vorher.
Zwei der Platten sind in einem Gehäuse und nur über ein Kabel angeschlossen.
Ich vermute, da ist die Reihenfolge der beiden beim mounten dann eher zufällig.
Nur wo genau liegt der Zufall? Beim mounten nach /mnt/usb1 oder 2? Oder
könnte es gar schon zufällig sein, welche Platte /dev/sdb1 bzw. /dev/sdc1 ist?
Letzteres wäre ja ganz blöd. Dann könnte ich dem ja nicht mal mit einem
festen mounten fstab entgegensteuern, oder?
Allerdings greife ich ja in der Regel über /media/usb zu. Darin sind die "Namen"
der Datenträger als Symlinks nach /mnt/usb. Ich vermute mal, die werden
nicht gelöscht beim Runterfahren bzw. Neustart. Wenn ich das aber irgendwo
einstellen könnte, würde ich da ja immer die richtige Bezeichnung, passend
zur Platte sehen, richtig? Wie ginge das ggf?

Jetzt muss ich nur noch rausfinden, wie das mit NTFS-Platten richtig geht.

Warum nur eine? Nun, bei dieser iSerial-Nummer häng ich fest. Wie ich eingangs schrieb sind
ja zwei Platten in einem Gehäuse, nur mit einem Kabel angeschlossen. Per lsusb finde ich
aber nur genau diesen einen USB-Port. Und nun ...? :-\

hmmm
liegt wohl daran, daß zwei (sata?)-Platten an einem SATA2USB-Adapter hängen
dann is wohl die iserial die des Adapters...
==>> da weiss ich auch nich weiter...
also: Wie unterscheidet man 2 Platten an einer Adapter?

uns schau ob dann /dev/heinz und /dev/guenther auftauchen

Dort ist u.a. beschrieben, wie das "sysfs" aufgebaut ist. Unter /sys sind alle Geräte hierarchisch

Hier läßt sich schon gut die hierarschische Struktur erkennen. Zum Beispiel hat die Platte eine
Partition sdc1 und dafür gibt es ein Unterverzeichnis. Die Platte hängt an einem USB-Port, also
findet sich unter "device" ein Link zurück nach /sys/devices/... Die Platte hat eine Größe, wofür
es eine Datei "size" gibt. Ein cat /sys/block/sdc/size würde einfach die Größe in Bytes auswerfen.
Sich manuell durch die ganzen Verzeichnissen und Dateien zu hangeln, ist natürlich viel zu
umständlich. Dafür gibt es das Programm udevinfo. Ein Beispiel:

Das ist in Wirklichkeit noch viel länger und hangelt sich über die parent devices USB, usw.
bis runter zum PCI-Bus, an dem der USB-Controller hängt.
Interessant sind für uns die erste und zweite Abschnitt. Wollten wir die Platte zum Beispiel
über ihre Größe erkennen lassen, würde die udev-regel so lauten:

Möglicherweise haben wir mehrere, gleich große Platten. Dann schauen wir ein Abschnitt

... wenn meine nun schön eingebundenen Platten nun auch noch ein wenig schneller
liefen, wäre mein Glück fast vollkommen. 5-10 MB/s, lesend und schreibend. :-[
An meinem Wintendo-Rechner schaffen sie bis zu ~30 MB/s.
Ich hatte gestern Abend extra noch mal einen USB-Controller mit NEC-Chip reingesteckt,
keine Verbesserung zum onBoard-USB.
Vielleicht NTFS schuld? Ich werde mal eine andere Platte mit ext2 oder FAT probieren.
Oder ist USB unter Linux generell so lahm? Ich weiß, da gab es irgendwas mit sync oder
async beim mounten. Aber das betrifft, so wie ich es verstanden hab, nur die Schreibrate,
die dann richtig ectrem langsam wird.
