Hallo

..für alle die es noch nicht kennen....

hiermit ist es möglich sich X-Anwendungen
( d.h. auch den ganzen Desktop -hier wohl hauptsächlich Fluxbox )
vom VDR oder jeder anderen Linux-Kiste auf seinen Arbeitsrechner umzuleiten

läuft out of the box ;D

- download: siehe link - dann "oben rechts" get nx free edition.....

- linux/vdr : am besten alle 3 programmteile installieren ( sowohl auf dem einen,
wie auf dem anderen Rechner - Anleitung auf der homepage )

- windows: ..naja halt den windows client installieren ( ebendort )

- extra Benutzer auf dem vdr einrichten ( root-login per default verboten! )

dann per inst.wizzard eine applikation auswählen/konfigurieren ( xclock ist ein geduldiger Kandidat )
=> click aufs neue icon :-)

... bei mir hab ichs für thunar/xfce4/fluxbox/konsole...

- die nötigen root berechtigungen kann man sich kann man sich dann ja über z.b. su besorgen

kleines schmankerl -- mit strg/alt/T gibs ein keines menu - da kann man dann
entweder die Applikation beenden oder nur die Verbindung trennen*
(* dann läuft das im Hintergrund nämlich weiter..... uns man kann sichs dann
später wieder zurückholen..... )

kleine Einschränkung -- es sind max 2 connects gleichzeitig möglich ( free edition )
(- ich bin damit aber immer klar gekommen )

hi

..is nich kompliziert..

und is schneller ..es wird nicht der komplette screen übertragen, sondern
nur die X11 Befehle, den Rest macht der Arbeitsrechner

der client ist sowas wie ein kleiner xserver

...einfach mal ausprobieren

Moin,

geht auch cygwin mit X.
Da hat man auf dem Win-Rechner ein Unix im Windows mit X und auf dem Linux muss nichts installiert werden. NFS-Server/-client, perl, alles drin auf Wunsch.
Geht auch mit root.
Hab nur noch nie probiert, ob vdr geht (über tvtime?).

Hallo

cygwin hatte ich zuerst auch installiert,

aber das ist afair gegenüber nx ein echtes Schwergewicht

und ich wenn ich mich recht entsinne laufen dann alle Applikationen im cygwin-fenster
Applikationen können bei nx "solo" laufen und Trennung und Wiederaufanhme
sind bei cygwin, glaub ich, so einfach auch nicht möglich ( ich habs damals jedenfalls nicht hinbekommen )
-- dafür benötigt man übrigens den "nx-server-part"---

ansonsten möcht ich natürlich hier niemandem etwas aufdrängen
-- wers ausprobieren will solls tun, wer nicht, der eben nicht --

ich finds jedenfalls prima.

NX is great. I’m deeply in love with it. Sometimes it’s acting like a real jerk, though. The NX Web Companion is installing a lot of crap into the active user’s profile. The NX client writes stuff in the active user’s profile. Both isn’t really convenient for me.

I prefer to have all my settings with me on a USB thumbdrive. So, in the spirit of PortableApps I’ll show you how to simply turn NX into a portable application.

First thing to do is installing NX client on a machine, if you have installed already - that’s fine. Copy the entire program folder to a new directory structure like NxClientPortable\App (I’ll follow the PortableApps schema here). In NxClientPortable create a new directory named “Data” and a batch file with the following contents:

reg delete /f /va "HKCU\Software\Cygnus Solutions"

reg delete /f /va "HKLM\Software\Cygnus Solutions"

That’s it. Start the batch file and you’ll be fine. No need for installations, no files in some stranger’s profile. Everything goes back to your thumbdrive neatly.

This example also demonstrates why batch still isn’t dead: The USERPROFILE variable will be changed just within the scope of our batch file, all other applications will still use the path specified in the “global” instance of the variable.

=> easyvdr desktop from everywhere :-)
