Here is the README

Critter presents VDR 2.0.2 for Motorola VIP 1710.

VDR 2.0.2 + vdr-2.0.2-vasarajanauloja.patch + vdr-1.7.16-no-setprio.patch + patches which some plugins needs

plugins included:
elvis-2.0.0, femon-2.0.0, pin-0.1.14, remotetimers-1.0.0, streamdev-0.6.0,
svdrpservice-1.0.0, ttxtsubs-0.3.0, epgsync-1.0.0, osdteletext-0.9.4, remoteosd-1.0.0,

Some notes about this release:
Working dvb-t subtitling, video scaling, truecolor OSD (eg. working LCARS) and locales.

REQUIREMENTS
------------

MOTOROLA VIP1710 device. ( http://www.mikrocontroller.net/articles/MOTOROLA_VIP1710 )
Usb stick formatted to ext2 filesystem.
Working VDR server with streamdev-server plugin.

INSTALL
-------

Just tar xvjf vdr_202-vip1710-0.0.9-ng-critter.tar.bz2 to ext2 formatted usb stick.

Modify vdr config files in the /etc to suitable for your needs. (eg. setup.conf, remote.conf, channels.conf..)
Modify runvdr.sh script to activate/unactivate plugins.
Modify pre-vdr.sh scripts if needed. (Launch something before vdr starts. eg. nfs mount)
Modify plugrc (eg. if you need activate logging)

If you have problem with your timezone.
Telnet your vip1710 and mount flash filesystems to read/write access.
mount -o remount,rw /flash
mount -o remount,rw /flash2
Then set your timezone with command:
toish is SetObject cfg.locale.timezone Europe/Helsinki
(you can check available timezones from /usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/)
You can copy additional timezones from working ubuntu system.

COUPLE OF HINTS!
----------------

If you are editing configs when telnet to vip1710 you can use nano (which I think is more easier than vi).
You have to just eg. "export TERM=vt102" then nano will work.
(maybe this is just restriction with putty or something)

Usefull kill commands to free cpu power and memory.

killall -9 runvdr.sh vdr (to kill vdr process)
killall -9 halserver procman; watchdog -t 5 /dev/misc/watchdog (to kill halserver etc.)

Thanks for this new version - for me, it works better than the previous ones. However, I wonder whether some more plugins are possible - e.g. MP3 (provided that it can be built for VDR 2).

Erstmal vielen Dank für die neue Version - sie läuft für mich bislang am zuverlässigsten. Was ich mir noch wünschen würde, sind weitere Plugins, wie z.B. MP3 - oder geht das mit dem VDR 2 (noch) nicht?

Now I am quite busy, but I try to get some time and investigate if MP3 plugin can be compiled. If there are any other plugins which you'll need, please tell me, so I can check if those can be compiled too.

One Question: Does somebody have succesfully mounted a CIFS share with this image?

Because the mount.cifs has the same size as the mount.cifs from tv-users images...
I was not sucessful with mounting a CIFS share...

My next try was to use the mount.cifs from my images witch has another size than that one used here...

Hi all,

I tried to install this on my Hilse-hacked VIP1710, but for some reason without success so far.
The archive was untared to a 2 Gig USB stick using my easyvdr 1.0 system. When I attach it to the VIP it looks like some of the scripts in the root directory are empty - most likely because it became converted to unicode somehow.

The readme says to use nano I should "export TERM=vt102". I can enter this as a command in the shell but when I start nano I'm getting "Error opening terminal: vt102".

Is there a tutorial for installing this somwhere around?

OK so i have tried this very fine software too.

It runs very well on the 1710...
Changing the OSD language (and so on) from suomi to german was no big deal.

@critter: i think you have the right cifs kernel module in you archive. CIFS mount works too.
Thank you for this very fine software. (K+)

@videopix: in the archive is a manual included. Reading this and uncompressing the files with "tar -xjf archive.tar.bz2" helps in my case...

Habe mich nach langer Zeit wiedermal mit meiner VIP Box 1710 beschäftigt.
Das Critter image 0.0.9 läuft ganz gut. OSD jetzt auch in Deutsch , super
Leider habe ich noch kein zugriff auf die Aufnahmen meines Servers
Sat Radio geht auch noch nicht. Bleibt stumm..
Weiss jemand was ich wo eintragen muss , damit das funtzt.
Benutze EasyVDR 2.06beta2 als Server
Aufnahmen liegen im Standart Verzeichnis des Servers /media/easyvdr01/video0
Ip Adresse des Servers 192.168.178.56
Der Vip Box 192.168.178.90

Hi Zusammen,
ich beschäftige mich gerade auch noch mit der VIP1710, wo noch zwei von hier rumfliegen.
Nachdem ich die Streamdev Servereinstellung meines 2.0er quasi Headless Servers mit
Start_Server auf 1 gesetzt habe läuft es.
Probleme gibt es nur , wenn man den VDR Loglevel auf 5 setzt, dann bekommt man Bufferprobleme.

Ich habe auch Probleme mit dem mount auf eine Samba Server.
Ich denke das irgendwas mit dem cifs auf der Distri schief ist.
Mit der ersten Distri klappt es problemlos.
Ich muß mal ein okulares diff machen, dann sehen wir weiter.

So,
jetzt kann ich auch mal was beitragen.

Wie schon beschrieben ist in dem CIFS noch ein Bock drin.
Erfolgreich habe ich es jetzt geschaft wie folgt :
Die Distri auf einen Stick, wie beschrieben.
VIP starten, dann mit Terminal drauf.
Dort dann in / das Packet : wget http:hilses.de/vip1710/cifs-mount-and-module.tar.bz2 holen.
diese dort entpacken.
Schließent klappt es auch mit
insmod cifs
mount.cifs //SAMBA-SERVER/vdr /video (bzw. /mnt/video).

puh, das hat nerven gekostet.

Wenn interesse besteht werde ich meine Lauffähige Version (mit durch die Brust ins Auge) hier zur Verfügung stellen.

Wenn ich Luft habe schau ich mal danach.
Ein VDR muß noch aus dem neuen Kinderzimmer raus und dafür
kommt die VIP geräuchlos ins Schlafzimmer.

Hi,
mit dem original Setup funktioniert nur die, die bei der VIP dabei war (hab ich auch nicht)
Universal ist gut, aber zum anlernen brauchst du ja eine.
Ich habe ein paar Tage rumgetüftelt und diese hier ans
laufen gebracht.
Hauppauge R808-HPG-S

Diese läuft derzeit an meinen Nexus FF Systemen und hat einen hohen
WAF, somit ist die Umstellung dann auf die VIP leichter.

Hallo,
gibt es eine bestimmte Fernbedienung für die VIP? Ich habe eine alte nach fünf Jahren aus der Verpackung geholt, da mir noch eine Röhre zur Verfügung steht. Klappte mit diesem Version alles auf Anhieb!! DANKE !!!
Aber welche Fernbedienung soll ich nehmen? Ist eine originale erhöltlich? Hätte aber lieber eine Universal genommen, doch welchen Code für was?

Normale FBs senden mit 38KHz.

Die VIP Boxen haben aber im normalen Zustand einen 56KHz TSOP,
Das funktioniert also zumindest schlechter als wenn dies zusammenpasst, (Reichweite, Fehler)

Bei dieser FB also ggf. den TSOP tauschen (ca. 1€).

Danke für die Info. Ich hab es jetzt erstmal mit einer alten Technisat FB hinbekommen.

Weiter habe ich versucht ein Bild am S-Video Ausgang abzugreifen. Da kommt aber scheinbar nix. Kann man den irgendwie aktivieren.

Ansonsten bin ich begeistert, wie stabil das Teil läuft.
